Spartans Lose Defensive Battle Late To Cobbers

The Spartans took on the Concordia - Moorhead JV Team and were sent away with a 6-2 loss.  For most of the game the teams traded defensive stops.   Neither offensive could find their rythmn on the ground and passing yards were hard to come by.   Concordia was able to end the scoring drought with 1:37 left in the 3rd when they scored on a 5 yard TD run by John Simon.  On the ensuing PAT the Cobbers had a bad snap and the QB threw the ball up to try and get the 2pt conversion but it was intercepted by Dacari Dickens who raced 98 yards to get the Spartans two points.   The Spartans had one chance to take the lead late in the 4th quarter when Devaughn Prince intercepted a pass and took it back onto Cobber territory.  However, the offense was unable to convert it into points and the Cobbers grinded out the clock to end the game.

Head Coach Cory Miller had these thoughts on the game.  "With injuries to three of our five sophomores some guys had to step up and play new positions and bigger roles then normal.  The guys competed extremely hard and the defense played very disciplined and tackled extremely well.   Each week we continue to improve in different areas but still lack the focus and composure needed and that ends up ruining scoring chances and the ability to extend drives."

The Spartans will open up division play next week as they travel to Worthington, MN to take on Minnesota West.  Kick-Off is scheduled for 1:30pm.
