#5 M State Volleyball Team Concludes Regular Season With Victory Over Minnesota West.
The Spartan volleyball team hosted its last home game of the season on Saturday. It was Sophomore Day as seven sophomores were playing their last game in the Spartan Gymnasium. Earlier in the year the Spartans lost a tough five set match to Minnesota West and today they were looking to extract some revenge. The Spartans started off on fire putting the Bluejays away 25-9 in the first set. The Bluejays came back and made the second set interesting. The Spartans were ultimately able to prevail 26-24. The third set was similar to the second with both team exchanging points. The Spartans this time around couldn't close it out and dropped set three 25-22. The fourth and final set was another close battle and Spartans were able to pull away late and take the set 25-21 and the match 3-1. The Spartans finished the regular season with a incredible record of 21-4.
Leading the way for the Spartans offensively was Katherine Mastey with 13 kills. Hannah Eske added 9 kills followed by Alexa Mortenson and Amzie Aho with 8. Mortenson was a force at the net tallying 7 blocks. Sydney Hovland put up 38 assists and 8 digs. Bailey Marty collected 33 digs.
With the win the Spartans will be the 2nd Seed in the Region XIIIA Southern Division. The Spartans will travel to Rochester and face the #3 seed St. Cloud Tech on Friday, November 1st. Opening serve will take place at 8:00pm. Winner of the game will play Saturday at noon.
