Lady Spartans Pick Up 1st Win
Samantha Lupkes (23 points, 7 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 steals, 10-13 FG) and Taylin Schleicher (22 points, 11 rebounds, 8 assists, 8-11 FT) combined for 45 points on Friday night as the M State lady Spartans shot 49% (28/57) from the field in their 80-72 win over Central Lakes Community College in Brainerd.
Macky Warne had a solid all-around floor game with 13 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists. Kassandra Algarate added 12 points, 4 assists and 2 steals, Claire Mathiesen had 6 points, 10 rebounds and 3 assists, and Ashlee Rimpila contributed 4 points and 6 rebounds.
M State made 50% (5-10) of their three-point attempts and buried 73% (19-26) of their free throw opportunities. They also held a 46-33 advantage on the boards.
"We are much more focused and executing our game plan better," said Head Coach Janice Hendrickson of M State. "These girls are very unselfish, assisting on 22 of our 28 made baskets. We relied heavily on our posts today and they did a great job executing, combining for 45 of our 80 points. Even though we turned the ball over 23 times I thought we were composed and able to handle any comeback Central Lakes tried for."
The final home game of December will be played Tuesday at 5:30pm at M State against Northland Community College. Tip-off is set for 5:30pm.
