"We played much better than we have in the previous 7 games, but weren't able to keep up with #4 in the nation, Northland," said M State Head Coach Janice Hendrickson. "I was impressed with how well we handled the ball only having 13 turnovers. Our biggest challenge is our conditioning and performance in the fourth quarter."
Megan Swedberg had a double double (23 points, 15 rebounds) to lead the Pioneers. Madison Stenzel added 23 points and Emily Anderson finished with ten points. Hannah Dietsch grabbed 13 rebounds. Northland held a commanding 54-29 advantage on the boards and shot the ball at a 46.4% (32-69) clip.
Leaders for M State were Taylin Schleicher (15 points, 6 rebounds), Kassandra Algarate (12 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists), Samantha Lupkes (8 points, 7 rebounds, 3 assists) and Claire Mathiesen (8 points, 7 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 steals). Macky Warne added 9 points, 2 assists and 2 steals).
M State will play back-to-back games in Brainerd on Friday against Central Lakes and on Saturday against Rainy River in the Central Lakes Winer Invitational. Their next home game will be on Friday, January 5 against Mesabi Range.
