Spartans Drop Doubleheader to #14 Lansing Community College

The Spartans squared off against #14 Lansing Community College on Sunday.  This was the first ranked opponent the Spartans had faced this season.  In game one the Spartans were able to keep it tied up 1-1 until Lansing CC was able to break out offensively in the later innings to take the first game 9-1.  In game two Lansing CC was able to post 6 runs in the bottom of the fifth to push them to a 8-0 win.   The Spartans record falls to 3-3 on the season. 

Game 1:

Lansing CC got on the scoreboard first but an RBI single by Austin Oetter evened the game back up at 1-1.  It remained tied until the top of the fourth when Lansing CC added two runs.  They were able extend on their lead and took the game 9-1. 

Jake Dykhoff pitched 5 1/3 innings giving up five runs on nine hits.  Brooks Brown pitched the remaining 1 2/3 innings and have a up four runs on six hits. 

Oetter led the Spartan offense going 2-3 with double and a RBI. 

Game 2:

The Spartans were unable to get the bats going in game two.  Lansing CC was able to break up the 0-0 tie in the bottom of the 3rd when they were able to plate two runs.  They followed that up with a six run 5th inning to take the game 8-0. 

Eric Salvesen pitched 5 innings giving up eight runs on seven hits.  Three of the runs were earned. He struck out five batters. Bryce Schmit pitched one inning to finish out the game.

Jake Dykhoff and Dane Schwirtz each finished 1-3 on the day.

The Spartans will play another doubleheader on Monday vs Mott Community College.  First pitch is scheduled 2:00 pm.
