Spartans Fall In Doubleheader To Mott Community College

The Florida trip continued for the Spartan baseball team as they faced off with Mott Community College. The Spartans were unable to get the offense going and fell in both games. Mott CC took game one 9-1 and then 11-3 in the second. The Spartans record falls to 3-5 on the season.
Game 1:
A fast start by Mott CC put them ahead 5-0 early. The Spartans were able to tack on a run in the top of the 5th but ending up dropping the contest 9-1.
Nick Endersby got start for the Spartans and pitched two innings. Teigan Moritz provided three innings of relief before Westley Johnson came in and finished the game.
Jake Dykhoff led the Spartans offense going 2-3. Christian Norby added a hit and RBI.
Game 2:
The teams each exchanged runs in the first and it remained tied until the 4th when Mott CC was able to score three runs making it 4-1. The Spartans were able to tack a couple runs on the board but a big 7th inning for Mott CC made it to much to overcome. The Spartans dropped game two 11-3.
Mitch Porter pitched 6 innings giving up six runs on ten hits. He struck out four batters. Danny Lenarz and Christian Norby finished out the game for the Spartans.
Justin Dykhoff finished the game 2-3 with a RBI. Dane Schwirtz, Tom Magnusson, Wyatt Hamann, and Isaiah Sykora each collected one hit. Schwirtz and Brooks Brown collected their first stolen bases on the year.
The Spartans will play a nine inning game on Tuesday vs Mesabi Range.
