Spartans Split In Season Opener

M State Baseball opened its 2021 season with a trip to play Concordia College.

Game 1:

A walk-off by Concordia College lifted them to a 5-4 victory over the Spartans.  The Spartans were up 4-3 in the bottom of the 7th but Concordia was able to plate two runs and secured the win.  The Spartans outhit the Cobbers 7-5 on the day.  Teigen Moritz had two hits for the Spartans. 

Wyatt Halvorson took the mound for the Spartans and went 6 1/3 innings allowing four runs on four hits and striking out nine batters. 

Game 2:

 

The second game featured strong pitching performances by both teams but sophomore Justin Dykhoff secured the win as he pitched a 7 inning shut out.  The Spartans took the victory by a score of 3-0. 

The Spartans had eight hits in the game.  Christian Norby and Tyler Wapola had mulitple hits in the game. Justin Dykhoff pitched seven innings allowing zero runs and struck out seven batters.

The split puts Spartans at 1-1 on the season.  They will travel to Collegeville, MN on Thursday to face St. Johns JV.  The games are scheduled for 2:30 and 4:30pm.
