Spartans Lose Two to Minnesota West
The Minnesota West Bluejays used a couple of big innings to lead them to a sweep of M State on Friday, winning 8-1 and 9-2. A five-run fourth inning in game one got the Bluejays going and in game two they jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the first inning and never looked back.
RBI doubles from Eliecer Gonazalez, Haruta Endo and Manny Douja, along with a RBI single from Johnny Ramsey led to the big fourth inning in the first game. Endo went 3-for-4 at the plate, Ramsey stole a pair of bases and drove in 3 runs, and Ales Zhao collected two hits. Starting pitcher Triston Sauerbrei (7IP, 4H, 1R, 6K, 3BB) was the beneficiary of the offensive output by the Bluejays.
Dalton Heater led the Spartans with a 2-for-3 day at the plate, including one run batted in.
Conner Eich (7IP, 1H, 2R, 1ER, 11K, 2BB) went the distance to earn the win in game two for Minnesota West. Arturo Jimenez went 2-for-4 at the plate with two runs batted in to lead the Bluejays.
Dain Schroeder and Carson Bussell each delivered a RBI for the Spartans and Bussell had the only hit in the game.
The Spartans will welcome Itasca on Wednesday for their next contest.
