The Minnesota State men's basketball team played their first road game of the 2022-2023 season.  The Spartans came away with their second victory in two attempts by escaping with a 99-95 victory over Sisseton Wahpeton College.  The game started well for the Spartans as Akok Aguer took the opening tip for a powerful slam dunk and then followed with a steal and three-point play that became a four-point play as he was fouled on the release of his successful shot.

Sisseton Wahpeton responded from a ten-point halftime deficit by picking up the pace while scoring 52 points in the second half.  The Mustangs took the lead by one with about three minutes to play but a Noel Kabnaga three pointer gave the lead right back to the Spartans.  Two back-to-back steals and dunks by Aguer allowed the Spartans to keep a cushion from the hot-shooting Mustangs.

Minnesota State was led by Aguer with 26 points.  Foday Sheriff followed with 21.  Noel Kabanga recorded a double-double with 11 points and 12 rebound.  Rebounding was a significant factor as the Spartans dominated the glass holding a plus 20 advantage on the boards.

Wahpeton Sisseton was led by Jamison Pratt with 28 points.

The Spartans will take their 2-0 record on the road when they travel to Thief River Falls to take on Northland Community and Technical College.
