Spartan Men Win on Opening Night as Sheriff Paces 5 Players in Double Figures

Foday Sheriff had a solid all-around floor game on Monday night to lead the M State Men's Basketball team to a 94-86 road win over Trinity Bible College in Ellendale, ND.  Sheriff scored 11 points, pulled down 15 rebounds and dished out 7 assists to lead the Spartans.  All five starters scored in double digits for M State.  The Spartans built a 46-38 halftime lead and then played even over the last 20 minutes to win their season opener.

Tyson McArthur led M State with 22 points, while adding 5 rebounds, 3 assists and 3 steals.  Mason Muir had 19 points, 3 boards and 5 assists, Yonis Mohumud finished with 15 points, 3 rebounds, 3 assists and 2 steals, and Javin Tindall contributed 13 points and 4 rebounds.

The Spartans shot 52.9% (37-70) from the field and made 10-of-27 3's for 35.7%.  They had 21 assisted baskets in the game and only had 12 turnovers, while winning the rebounding battle 39-33.

Trinity Bible hit 44.3% (31-70) of their field goal attempts and made 9-of-23 (39.1%) 3-point shots.  They were led by Jonathan Ogugua (25 points, 3 rebounds), Marcellus Maencarini (24 points, 6 assists, 4 steals, 3 rebounds) and Quincy Wilson (10 points, 3 rebounds.

The Spartans will open their home season with a game against the Mayville State JV team next Tuesday, November 12.
