M State Men Win Home Opener 100-76 Over Mayville JV
The M State Men's Basketball team shot 50.6% from the field, held a 46-30 rebounding advantage, assisted on 25 of 39 made baskets and placed four players in double figures on Tuesday night as they defeated the Mayville State JV team 100-76 in their home opener, improving to 2-0 on the young season. M State held a 48-35 halftime lead in the game.
Foday Sheriff delivered a double-double with 22 points and 13 rebounds, while adding 9 assists and a pair of steals. He made 8-of-11 field goal attempts and all five of his free throws. Mason Muir (21 points, 6 rebounds, 4 steals, 1 assist), Yonis Mohamud (13 points, 4 rebounds, 3 assists, 1 steal) and Javin Tindall (12 points, 7 rebounds, 3 assists, 1 steal) were also in double digits for the Spartans. M State was 12-for-14 (85.7%) on the free throw line and made 34.5% (10-29) of their 3's, led by Leng Akol (2-2, 6 points) and Tristan Caouette (2-3, 6 points). Carter Clark also added 6 points on 2-of-2 shooting.
Mayville shot 41.7% (25-60) from the floor, made 7-of-22 (31.8%) from beyond the arc and went 19-for-27 (70.4%) from the charity stripe. They were led by 29 points from Noah Brown, coming off the bench to hit 10-of-14 shots, including 4-of-5 3's. He also made 5 of his six free throw attempts. He was joined in double figures by Leighton Strommen and Lachlan Enright with 10 points apiece. Conner Bailey had a team high 5 rebounds.
M State will travel to Thief River Falls on Saturday to face Northland Community and Technical College in a 3:00pm tip-off. They will be in Grand Rapids to face Minnesota North College-Itasca on Monday night and return home for a Wednesday match-up with NDSCS at 7:00pm on November 20.
