Spartan Men Improve to 13-1 win 89-49 Win Over Itasca

The M State Men's Basketball team improved their season record to 13-1 as they won their fourth straight game on Monday at the Spartan Classic, beating Minnesota North College – Itasca, 89-49.  The Spartans shot 54.8% (40-73) from the field and forced 23 turnovers which led to 29 points.  They also has 15 steals and 20 assists on 40 made baskets, while winning the rebound battle, 36-28.

Trailing 5-3 early in the game, M State went on a 17 point run to take a 20-5 lead on the way to a 49-30 halftime advantage.  They held Itasca to just 19 second half points on 25% shooting.

M State placed five players in double figures, led by Foday Sheriff (22 points, 8 rebounds, 8 assists, 3 steals) and Yonis Mohamud (18 points, 3 steals).  Mason Muir scored 15 points, dished out 5 assists and came up with 6 steals.  Javin Tindal (12 points, 8 rebounds, 4 assists) and Tyson McArthur (10 points, 5 rebounds) were also in double digits.

Dmareon Manning led Itasca with 22 points, including 5-of-10 three-pointers.  Victor Estevao had a team high 8 rebounds.

M State will host Leech Lake Tribal College at 5:00pm Tuesday in the final game of the Spartan Basketball Classic.
