Spartan Men Clinch Playoff Berth, Take Sole Possession of Division Lead with win Over Rams
The M State Men's basketball team clinched a post season berth with a 94-71 victory over Anoka-Ramsey on Sunday afternoon in Fergus Falls. The Spartans improved to 8-1 in the MCAC South and 22-2 overall. Their win, coupled with the Riverland loss to Minnesota West on Saturday, leaves M State alone atop the Southern Division standings.
M State was on fire from the field, making 58.9% (33-56) of their field goal attempts and hitting 16-of-28 (57.1%) 3's in the game. They also went 12-of-15 (80%) from the foul line.
Foday Sheriff started the offensive onslaught by going 5-for-5 from 3-point range in the first half. He finished the game with 19 points, 8 rebounds, 5 assists and a pair of steals. Yonis Mohamud led M State with 21 points, while adding 4 steals. Tyson McArthur had 17 points, 8 rebounds, 4 assists and 2 steals, and Mason Muir scored 16 points, while dishing out a game high 6 assists. M State had 8 different players connect from beyond the arc. Nate Vinson chipped in with 9 points off the bench.
Khadeem Thomas and Albert Tinnell IV led Anoka-Ramsey with 16 points each. J'son Saeed'El added 14 and Jamal Woods had a dozen. Thomas also led the team with 7 rebounds. The Rams also shot the ball well, making 50.9% (27-53) of their field goal attempts. M State won the rebounding battle, 28-22.
The Spartans will host Trinity Bible College at 7:30pm Wednesday in a non-conference game.
