All Five Starters Reach Double Figures as Spartans Defeat Mesabi Range 107-55 in Region XIII Opener

M State fell behind 4-0 in their Region XIII quarterfinal game against Mesabi Range and then went on a 29-2 run to establish a lead they never relinquished on the way to a 53-25 halftime lead and a 107-55 victory.  The win advances the Spartans into the semifinal round of the tournament on Saturday, where they will face Ridgewater College at Anoka-Ramsey Community College in Coon Rapids. 

M State had a tremendous shooting day, making 62.3% (38-61) of their field goal attempts and 59.3% (16-27) of their 3-point shots.  They also went 15-for-24 (62.5%) from the free throw line.  M State held a 47-28 advantage on the boards.

Eight different Spartans connected on shots from beyond the arc, led by Yonis Mohamud who made 4-of-6 treys, finishing with 15 points.  All five starters were in double figures, led by Foday Sheriff with 19 points.  Sheriff completed a double-double by snagging 16 rebounds.  He also had 6 assists and a pair of blocked shots.  Tyson McArthur scored 16 points on 5-of-8 shooting and 4-4 shooting from the foul line, and Braylon Baldwin scored a dozen and pulled down 8 rebounds.  Mohamud also contributed 6 assists and 4 steals.

The Norse made just 32.3% (21-65) of their shots from the field, making only 18.2% (4-22) of their 3's.  Tristan Coleman scored 15 points and pulled down 6 rebounds, KeyVaughn Field added 11 points and DJ Jackson delivered 11 points off the bench.
