The M State Men's Golf team won the UMM Invite at Pomme de Terre Golf Club in Morris on Saturday with a score of 316, five strokes better than the host team, UM-Morris.  Brock Thompson was the medalist with an even par round of 72.  Aidan Johnson (76) and Erik Bjorndahl (78) also added scores in the 70's for the Spartans.

Markus Nelson (83), Joe Alexander (85) and Adam Vatnsdal (89) rounded out the M State scores for the day.

"I was very happy with the way our team competed and started our season in Morris on a great day to play golf," said head coach Jason Retzlaff.  "I was very pleased with our play, especially for the first round of the year and a course that none of our players had seen previously.  Brock Thompson played a tremendous round with an even par 72.  He led us at the national tournament in June and his momentum has continued.  We also had excellent play from Aidan Johnson and Erik Bjorndahl.  Overall, it was a great way to start the season."

Morris had 3 scores in the 70's, led by Aaron Nack with a 76.

The Spartans will next compete at home in the Spartan Invitational at Pebble Lake Golf Club on Friday, September 6.  It will be a 10:30am shotgun start.
