Spartans Host Golf Invitational at Pebble Lake Golf Course
The M State golf team hosted their Spartan Invitational on Friday at Pebble Lake Golf Course in Fergus Falls. The M State men finished fourth in a strong field with a team score of 322. Alex Tech won the even with a 295, Dickinson State Blue was runner-up with a 304. Mayville State Blue was third with a score of 309. Drew Imdieke of Alex Tech won medalist honors in a playoff over Dickinson State's Torrin Ellis. Both players carded rounds of 71.
"It was a beautiful day for golf and one of the strongest field we have had at the Spartan Invite," said Spartan head coach Jason Retzlaff. "It was a bit of a struggle for our men. We had a lot of burned edges on the putts which made it tough to get momentum going. While things didn't quite go our way, I continue to be encouraged by the character, competitiveness, and skill of our players. It will be fun to watch the season progress as our fall golf schedule will continue to see a lot of top notch competition."
Aidan Johnson earned a top 10 individual finish and led M State with a 78. Brock Thompson tied for 16th with an 80. Markus Nelson and Joe Alexander turned in rounds of 82, tying for 20th place and Erik Bjorndahl was 26th with an 83.
The Spartans will compete next at the Jimmie Invite hosted by the University of Jamestown on September 15-16 at Jamestown Country Club.
