The M State lady Spartans opened play in the Central Lakes Classic on Friday night with a 71-57 loss to the host Central Lakes Raiders. Central Lakes shot 43% (28-65) and M State hit 38% (21-55) of their shots. M State struggled to take care of the ball as they recorded 34 turnovers which led directly to 18 points.
Central Lakes placed four players in double figures, led by 21 points from Kalli Papenfuss. She completed her double-double with 13 steals, while adding 9 rebounds and 8 assists. Alyssa Torgerson contributed 19 points, 7 rebounds and 6 steals, Jacey Rydberg had 16 points, 4 rebounds and 3 assists, and Johnalisse Morales came off the bench to score 11 points.
Lindsey Kurz led M State with 16 points and 9 rebounds. Emily Dehler added 13 points, 5 rebounds, 3 assists and 4 steals. Keely Foley contributed a team high 4 assists and had 3 steals, and Ashley Dreger chipped in with 7 points and 7 rebounds.
