The M State women's basketball team completed a successful 2-0 weekend road trip with a convincing 70-40 win over Minnesota North College – Vermilion in Ely on Saturday. M State had 22 assists on 28 made baskets in the contest, led by Madi Foss with 6 and Maddy Zwetzig with 5. Felicty LeBlanc and Tenley Epema added 4 assists each and Kaitlyn Olson contributed 3.
The lady Spartans shot 38% (28-74) from the field and made a third (4-12) of their 3's. The also had a commanding 46-26 edge on the boards. Vermilion hit just 30.5% (18-59) of their shots from the floor and a dismal 7% (1-14) of their treys.
LeBlanc (18 points, 13 rebounds and Foss (16 points, 10 rebounds) registered double-doubles, while Epema (18 points, 9 rebounds) just missed a double-double. They were joined in double digits by Zwetzig with 13 points. Olson snared 10 rebounds and LeBlanc led the team with 4 steals.
Vermilion received 13 points and 10 rebounds from Angie Schuchardt, 12 points from Tamia Cahee and a team high 6 assists from Ny'jai Wright.
M State (2-1) will travel to Ellendale, ND on Tuesday night to face Trinity Bible College.
