Lady Spartans Take Control with Strong 4th Quarter in 10 Point Win Over Vermilion

The M State lady Spartans entered the fourth quarter trailing Minnesota North College – Vermilion 44-43, however, the home team took control of the game over the final ten minutes outscoring Vermilion 20-9 to post a 63-53 victory, improving to 5-4 on the season.
M State shot 37% (26-70) from the field, led by Kharmon Wells with 23 points on 9-of-16 shooting, and Madi Foss with 21 points. Felicity LeBlanc was also in double digits with 11 points and completed a double-double with 14 rebounds. Kaitlyn Olson led the rebounding effort with 15 as the lady Spartans held a 52-39 edge on the boards. Wells had a team high 4 steals and Tenley Epema dished out 5 assists. M State assisted on 16 of their 26 made field goals and survived a 21 turnover night.
Vermilion had two players reach double figures, Lyric Hull-Chiplin with 23 and Tamia Cahee with 15. Hull-Chiplin also had 10 rebounds, while Cahee recorded 8. Hull-Chiplin came up with a team high 7 steals, while Angie Schuchardt secured 14 rebounds. Vermilion shot just 27.8% (22-79) from the field.
The lady Spartans will open their tough MCAC Southern Division schedule with four of their first five games on the road, beginning on Wednesday, January 8 in Worthington when they face Minnesota West.
